The railroads are some of our favorites. The Thomas & Friends Boulder Mountain Set is probably the number one wooden railroad set on the market today. It has a GREAT cast of railway characters like Cranky the Crane and Percy the Small Engine. Of Course, thomas the Tank leads them all off. The set is expandable so you can continue to add new characters, rail sections, and ornamentation year after year.

You would not believe what we came across from Thomas & Friends. The Special Edition Thomas Track Rider is a Thomas ride-on toy that is just adorable. By all accounts (including our own testing) the button to “make it go” are a little tough for a 2 year old, but most 2 ½ to 3 year olds can do it. (We also found that a zip tie holds the button down nicely.) Until your little guy is old enough for a more advanced ride-on toy, this is a great place to start.
