The all important glider. The importance cannot be overstated! Just think...

It's 3:45am and all is quiet. Then, suddenly, in the still of the night, a tiny light flashes on the baby monitor. No sound, just a tiny red LED lights up for a split second. Then another light. Then another. Then comes the sound... Baby is awake, and he is "asking" you to come give him a little snack.

Does this sound familiar? If you're an experienced parent, it sure should. If you're an expectant parent - it will! Middle of the night feedings are common. The way to get through it with the least discomfort? A nice gliding chair - a glider.

A glider will serve you well - much better than a standard stationary chair. It is really designed specifically for the nursery. There are a few Do's and Don't's about buying a glider...

When Glider Shopping

Do...
• Buy online - There are gliders available at many stores, but the best deals are far and away found online. Expect to pay as much as 50% more by shopping at a regular store.
• Look for shipping costs - Another reason to buy online. Most stores will charge from $35.00 to $75.00 to ship. Online purchase shouldn't cost more than a few bucks - or even be free!
• Look for Wood and Fabric Options - Most gliders can be customized at no extra cost.
• Check the specs for dimensions - Occasionally you'll find a glider that is smaller than the rest.

But Don't...
• Forget about an ottoman! Most gliders are sold without an ottoman. You'll definitely want one, so plan on tacking on an extra $150-$200 to your order for the ottoman.
• Forget to match the wood - The wood framing should match your bedroom set. You don't want a maple dresser and a cognac glider!
• Pay too much! It is easy to spend over $1,000.00 for a glider from a specialty furniture store. Don't do it! The manufacturers are mostly the same - you're just paying more!

Our Favorite Glider The glider that we have in George's room is the Dutailier Comfort Plus and we are thrilled with it.
